Summary

Sports Island 3D sees up to four players taking part in a variety of fun and family-friendly sports events using Nintendo’s 3DS technology. Ten sports – that can be rendered in eye-splitting 3D or standard 2D - are included in this bundle from HudsonSoft. These are: Soccer, Tennis, Basketball, Ice Hockey, Snowball Fighting, Sumo Wrestling, Bowling, Snowmobile Racing, Sport Blowgun and Trampoline.

Each game has been designed to offer a specific set of challenges to the gamer either alone or with pals. Each mini-game can be played in single-player or multi-player with the competitive modes to the fore. Special power-ups are provided during each of the events which can provide the lucky or skilful user with a leading advantage.

These are called ‘Super Play’ actions and provide the player with the opportunity to beat their opponents with, for example an over-sized racquets or a heavier ball in Tennis. A ‘Cannon Dunk’ and huge jumps come into play in Basketball, whereas in soccer an unstoppable ‘Rainbow shot’ is available. Although each event has a Super Move, the player must select the most effective time to incorporate its use rather than simply wasting the chance.

As they progress through Sports Island 3D players can customise their teams, and also play out events in the new venues that are unlocked. Four-player modes are achieved via wireless play or download – both competitive and collaborative modes are included.
