Summary

The Samurai Warriors series is back on the PlayStation for more widescreen action. Koei Tecmo is calling this new addition to the series, Samurai Warriors 4 II, a 'hero-focused saga', which revises and builds on its successor, Samurai Warriors 4.

It zooms in on the samurai who shaped the Sengoku era and plays out their stories through 13 new chapters. There adventures star nine characters from Samurai Warriors 4, three fan favourites dusted off from previous games and one brand new addition to the roster. Players choose a character at the start of each chapter, and who they pick shapes how that chapter plays out.

New to the game is Survival Mode. In it, players enter a deadly castle laden with endless levels and foes, but also countless rewards. If players defeat thousands of enemies and complete objectives they'll win weapons and mounts, and these can be used in the game's main story mode. Only, though, if you can make it out with the depleting time bar and health bar still intact!

The game also comes with a raft of new tweaks and improvements to existing gameplay. Changes include AI that responds better to players' movements, hyper attacks that will be more effective when ally morale is high, weapons skills being swapped in for equipment and heirlooms, 'epiphany skills' which surpass a character's current limits and the ability to port edited characters from the previous game to play in free mode and and survival mode.

For existing fans Samurai Warriors 4 II presents a raft of improvements, while for new fans it offers a more perfected version of the game to dive in with.
