Summary

In a season of big-name, triple-A video games releases from franchises like TitanFall, Call of Duty and Pokemon there hasn't been a huge amount of fanfare for Picross 3D: Round 2 on the 3DS, but that doesn't stop it from being a very welcome sequel for many gamers.

The Picross games have become closely tied to Nintendo's handheld consoles. The 3D puzzlers revolve around structures made up of blocks that need to be chipped away at to reveal the surprise 3D model inside. The 3DS's touch screen and stylus make it the perfect home for this latest release in the series.

In this outing, players will use two colours of paint to sculpt and shape even more elaborate models, ranging from castles to cats to cuckoo clocks! There are over 300 puzzles to tackle, each with three different difficulty levels.

The game even boasts amiibo compatibility. Players can tap in compatible amiibo to unlock special puzzles that are appropriately Nintendo themed!

Nintendo could have simply offered up a bunch of new puzzles and its fans would have been happy, but with Picross 3D: Round 2 the company has upped the ante and offered gamers brand new ways to play and, of course, plenty more head-scratching!
