BLACKHOLE: Complete Edition - PS4

It seems that in indie games these days the janitor is the new Master Chief. Blockhole continues the proud comedy sci-fi tradition of showing you a bunch of genius intergalactic traveller types and then ignoring them to put the coffee guy front and centre. You play as the lowest member in a pecking order of spacemen charged with travelling the universe to shut dangerous black holes. When things go wrong and you find yourself at the bottom of one, however, it falls on you to save your crewmates and solve the mystery of the strange world known only as the Entity.

What follows is an old school side scrolling platformer focused on puzzle solving. It's decidedly hardcore, with some fiendish levels for you to solve. Old school indeed! You might be surprised by the amound of story the dev team has packed in, though. The ship's artificial intelligence, Auriel, accompanies you on your journey and provides backstory and laughs. Don't worry, though, if you prefer your puzzling free of narrative you can select an option to skip huge sections of story.

Putting a literal spin on the gameplay is a gravity mechanic. Most levels have a glowing white gravitational field that will flip the screen when you step on it. You'll need to make full use of this feature, as to repair the ship you'll be picking up blue orbs called Selfburns, and you won't be getting many of them without flipping the game world around every which way!

Blackhole is definitely one to put the puzzle-platforming enthusiast's skills to the test! more
