Summary

When a Secret of Mana re-release on the PlayStation 4 was announced fans were, understandably, excited. It's no understatement to say that the Square original is one of the most celebrated role-playing games of all time. Originally developed for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and released in 1993, it was beloved for its sprawling narrative and depth of play. Now it's been faithfully restored for the PS4, complete with a graphical overhaul to bring it up to date and into the third dimension, as well as a few new tweaks.

Players take on the role of Randi, a young boy who must revive the magical power of Mana. To take down the forces of evil Randi and his pals Primm and Popoi must befriend the eight elementals who control the power that makes up the Mana. It's a grand old adventure packed to the gills with magic and action. While there's a range of abilities for players to master and bring to bear in combat, Secret of Mana is an action RPG rather than a turn-based affair, making it an ideal jumping-in point for gamers who are curious about the JRPG tradition but have always been wary of the way their battles usually play out.

As well as being reworked in 3D, Secret of Mana has had its musical score newly arranged and characters have been given voices for the first time. Throw in dialogue scenes that have been visualised for the first time and all-new conversations showing off the banter between Randi and his pals and there's plenty here for fans both new and old!
