Developed by Saber Interactive and published by 2K Sports, NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 is an arcade basketball game that, with its over the top antics, has as much in common with a zany beat-'em-up as it does with more straight-laced basketball games. It plays out over a series that playgrounds ranging from air force bases to the city streets to breezy waterfront tourist spots, sporting over 100 physics-defying signature moves including the likes of Michael Jordan's free throw line dunk, George Gervin's Iceman finger roll and LeBron James' self alley-oop.
At its heart it's a two on two multiplayer game, mirroring games played out on the streets for decades. That doesn't mean there isn't a deep bench of top flight talent in the mix, though. Hall of Famer Julius Dr. J Erving, NBA Champion Kevin Garnett, NBA All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns and emerging Celtics star Jayson Tatum all star on the cover and legendary new additions like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are part of a roster of 300 players from launch, with a further 200 planned for post-launch updates.
This isn't about the intensity of NBA arenas, it's about the camaraderie (and trash talk!) of shooting hoops after a hard day on the job. NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 puts the emphasis on firmly on fun over fidelity.
