Summary

The premise of the original Dragon Quest Builders was pretty straightforward - take the format of a sandbox building game made of blocks (we're pretty sure you know which one we're talking about) and structure it like a more traditional narrative RPG. It was designed to be accessible to anyone from a seasoned gaming veteran to a complete newcomer. The outcome was pretty successful, garnering a fair amount of critical praise and, of course, a sequel. That original premise has been brought through for this follow-up, but it comes with a heap of improvements, too.

As the game starts you wash up on the shore of an island and meet your new companion and buddy, Malroth. With his help you'll explore, fight, craft and cook your way to victory against the evil Children of Hargon.

The biggest change has to be the inclusion of multiplayer. Now up to four people can jump into a session and get building and playing together. If you've built something you're particularly proud of, you can also upload it onto the game's cross-platform noticeboard, where the blueprint will be available to anyone who wants to copy it. Even better, you can count on villagers to muck in and help you to build from other gamers' blueprints. In fact, they'll also help with other jobs, such as farming, meaning you can concentrate on more important tasks like fighting monsters.

The whole world is bigger this time out, with Square having put a lot of emphasis on the scale of the place. Consequently, you now have access to vehicles and a sort of glider/parachute to help you cruise around on the breeze and get about a bit quicker. You can also swim, and pootling around on the ocean floor will reveal new goodies.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 needs you to literally build a better world!
