Summary

If the world were overrun with zombies and you had a bit of time to think, what would you do? You'd forage for supplies, develop some skills and build yourself some pretty well-fortified accommodation in the hope of keeping the hordes out. You probably wouldn't do it with as much pizzazz as Fortnite, however. This newest shooter from Gears of War developer Epic is a madcap blend of Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead and Plants Vs Zombies, with a firm emphasis on team-based multiplayer action.

With monsters on the loose, you're tasked with one main thing: survival. Teaming up with your mates to fight back the undead isn't as simple as just obliterating as many of them as you can, however. Well, it is, but as well as having a host of ranged and melee weapons at your disposal, you'll also have the tools you need to build fortresses outfitted with elaborate traps. You'll need to go out into Fortnite's procedurally generated maps to gather as many resources as you can, then use a deep toolset to create as impregnable a base as you can. Whether you prefer to lay out deadly automated traps or simply create a castle you can hole up in and defend manually is up to you. The important thing is that you put yourself in the best possible position to annihilate as many enemies as possible!

Ramping things up even further, mind you, is Fortnite's famed Battle Royale mode. On an island filled with up to 99 other players, you'll need to scavenge, build and fight to be the last player standing in a mode where every match is epic by definition.
